Under the Licensing Act 2003, children will normally have access to licensed premises, unless there is a clear need for them to be excluded. The Medway Safeguarding Board is the ‘Responsibility Authority’ for safeguarding children and we are committed to working in partnership with other local authority services to ensure that licensees take the right steps to safeguard children.

Children are privately fostered when they are cared for on a full-time basis by adults who are not their parents or close relatives for a period of 28 days or more.. The new measures in the Children Act 2004 and in the Regulations strengthen and enhance the private fostering notification scheme and provide additional safeguards for privately fostered children.

Child Death Overview Panel
Government legislation now requires all local Safeguarding Children Boards to review the death of every child up to the age of 18 years, in that area. The Medway Child Death Overview Panel meets regularly to review child deaths and membership includes doctors and other health care specialists and child care professionals. Following the review the Child Death Overview Panel considers whether it is possible to make recommendations which could affect the planning of services for children or families in the future.
Further information regarding the work of the Panel is available here.
All deaths of Children [under 18years old] who are normally resident in Medway must be notified to the Child Death Administrator as soon as possible through Child Death agency leads. This is the case whether the child dies in Medway or elsewhere.
