CAF – Common Assessment Framework - Nationwide multi-agency initiative to co-ordinate support for children. The Common Assessment Framework is a standardised approach to conducting an assessment of a child’s additional needs and deciding how those needs should be met. The CAF process will promote improvement in integrated working by co-ordinating service provision.
CAFCASS – Child and Family Court Support Service – Looks after the interests of children involved in family proceedings. CAFCASS work with children and families and then advises the Courts on what is considered to be in the best interests of individual children.
CDOP – Child Death Overview Panel – Multi-agency meeting held regularly in each Local Authority to monitor all child deaths.
CEMACH – Confidential Enquiry into Maternal and Child Health – set up in 2003 as a unit within the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and becomes an independent charity in July 2009 with the new name of Centre for Maternal and Child Enquiries (CMACE). Aims to improve the health of mothers, babies and children by carrying out confidential enquiries and related work on a nationwide basis and by widely disseminating its findings and recommendations.
CEOP – Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre – is part of UK Police and is dedicated to protecting children from sexual abuse wherever they may be. It includes gathering intelligence around the risks, tracking and bringing offenders to account either directly or with local and international forces and working with children and parents to deliver the ThinkUknow educational programme.
CP – Child Protection.
CMACE – Centre for Maternal and Child Enquiries (formerly CEMACH) Aims to improve the health of mothers, babies and children by carrying out confidential enquiries and related work on a nationwide basis and by widely disseminating its findings and recommendations.
CRB – Criminal Records Bureau - all adults working with children have to be cleared by the CRB before they are allowed to be employed. The CRB is an executive agency of the Home Office, which vets applications for people who want to work with children and vulnerable people. The CRB aims to help organisations in the public, private and voluntary sectors by identifying candidates who may be unsuitable to work with children or other vulnerable members of society. New Vetting and Barring Scheme will be introduced in October 2009.

IAT – Integrated Team – in Medway the Integrated teams are based at the Redvers Centre (Rochester and Chatham), Elaine Centre (Strood and Hoo) and Woodlands Centre (Gillingham and Rainham).
JAR – Joint Area Review.
KMDVSG – Kent and Medway Domestic Violence Sub-Group.
KSCB – Kent Safeguarding Children Board.
LADO – Local Authority Designated Officer – responsible for co-ordinating and investigating allegations against staff.
LLR – Lessons Learned Review.
MARAC – Multi-Agency Risk Assessment Conferencing.
MAPPA – Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements.
MSCB – Medway Safeguarding Children Board – a statutory multi-agency organisation which brings together agencies who work to safeguard and promote the well-being of children in Medway and is designed to help ensure effective multi-agency working. Membership includes representatives from Medway Council, all Medway Health bodies, Kent Police, Kent Probation, Medway Schools, voluntary organisations and many others.

QACR – Quality Assurance and Case Review – Sub Committee of the Medway Safeguarding Children Board.
SANDS – Sudden and Neo-natal Death Society.
SCR – Serious Case Review.
VBS –Vetting and Barring Scheme – the first phase of the new Vetting and Barring Scheme will be introduced in October 2009.
